The Third Wales International Harp Festival took place in Caernarfon from 20-26 April 2014 – and what a wonderful week it was! So many devotees of the harp across many of its beautifully varied international forms gathered in one place, on the picturesque waterfront of North Wales.
I learnt a great deal through participating in the Chief Musician Competition of the festival, and was honoured to be awarded second prize in the Grand Final concert on Saturday 26th April. A highlight was having the opportunity to rehearse and perform William Mathias’ Zodiac Trio for flute, harp and viola with two players from Ensemble Cymru. I hugely enjoyed the performance, and the joy that can come from bringing such a naturally characterful and expressive piece to life.
Thank you to everyone who worked so hard and travelled so far to make this the event that it was!
